Some of you may know that we are proud to partner with Cedar Point to review their new attractions periodically and we always share our experiences with you. This past week we were lucky enough to get to spend an evening at the all new Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point, compliments of the resort. We were really excited about our stay at the hotel; we had not stayed there before and looked forward to a new adventure.
We are always up for a new adventure! Hotel Breakers, for those of you that do not know, is located right on the Cedar Point property in Sandusky Ohio. Right outside their door is a magnificent groomed and clean sandy beach on the shores of Lake Erie. This amazing hotel has been fully renovated and is beautiful, featuring 511 rooms and suites.
We arrived at the hotel on a cold, windy and blustery day. This is not what we had hoped for, and it was certainly not beach weather. Luckily we had decided before leaving to book an additional night at the hotel so that we could enjoy the get away just a bit longer. What a brilliant move that was! As soon as we walked into the hotel we were struck with modern finishes and decor, sparkly and new and very elegant.
Check in was a breeze as the counter has room for at least 5 employees; our niece sat and watched the big screen television they have in the lobby with kids size furniture. What a great idea!
This hotel is huge, as you can see. (Photo taken from the beach).
We were pleasantly surprised when we checked into our room. We love bright colors and everything was so bright and so clean! Each guest room features an LCD TV, dorm-sized refrigerator, microwave plus new bedding, décor and furniture. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also included and there is a fitness center if you are so inclined. We got enough exercise in by walking all around the park that we skipped the fitness center!
Notice that amazing storage area just inside the door? We love that! Built in shelving and hooks to store items helped to keep the room so much more tidy. Plus the refrigerator, microwave and freezer were helpful. To save time in the morning we were going to the amusement park we went to a local store the night before and bought some heat & eat breakfast burritos. We popped them into the microwave in the morning we awoke and enjoyed a quick, easy and inexpensive breakfast. Those along with some chilled grapes and milk made for the perfect start to our day. (This is also a tip to help save a little money on your trip.)
When you stay at the hotel you do pay for parking, but you are allowed in and out privileges for the length of your stay. Because you can walk to Cedar Point amusement park from the hotel you do not have to pay parking again. Staying at the hotel or staying somewhere else and driving to the park; they both will cost $15 parking. The hotel $15 charge is one time only, not per day.
Inside the hotel there are several places to eat including a Perkins, TOMO Hibachi Grill and TGIFriday’s and Starbucks. We did eat at TGIFriday’s after our day at Cedar Point; it was incredibly convenient to leave the park and walk to our hotel and not have to drive to eat dinner!
There is an indoor pool and an outdoor pool at the hotel, along with a game room and several areas to sit and relax. In fact on the second morning of our stay I was up very early and decided to let the crew stay sleeping. I knew I couldn’t stay in the quiet hotel room so I got dressed, grabbed my Kindle and headed down to the 5 story rotunda lobby. I grabbed a Starbucks coffee and sat in a big comfy chair looking at the pristine peaceful beach as I read.
It was magical, quiet and so relaxing. At the hotel the employees were bustling with activity; the staff’s attention to cleanliness can not be missed. There were employees hosing off the beach chairs, grooming the sand, vacuuming the indoor carpet, wiping the smudges off the tile floors, changing the garbage, dusting the molding, etc. It was incredible and it made it easy to understand how this property remains so very clean.
I was in my comfy spot for a few hours, and honestly enjoyed every minute. The crew enjoyed their long refreshing sleep too, which is a win-win for us all.
I alluded to it earlier, but one of the biggest things about staying at Hotel Breakers is convenience. Not only did we enjoy 1 hour early entry to the park (all guests of Cedar Point hotels enjoy this feature), but we were able to walk to the gate. No hassle of driving, no hassle of parking! It was brilliant – and because the Hotel Breakers is on the water the very short walk to the hotel only guest entrance is beautiful too, on a cement sidewalk. The early entrance allowed us to quickly get on some of the major rides including the all new Rougarou!
This was such a big big plus! It was so easy to get to and from the hotel that around lunchtime we decided to leave the park and walk back to our hotel room to freshen up. We went out and grabbed a bite to eat and then returned to our room for a little bit. It was a nice refresher for all of us. We then walked back to the park and stayed until it closed. Again – key word is convenience.
At night the park is lit up and the rides look really amazing!
Once everyone had risen the final day of the trip we decided to take advantage of the sunshine and walk along the boardwalk to enjoy the majestic scenery. Well, 3 of us did; our teenage nephew decided he’d rather enjoy an extra hour of sleep so he skipped the walk. Look what he missed!
If you get a chance, be sure to walk along the boardwalk; it’s very nicely manicured and you get an up close view of some of the rides. Check out how close we were to this one! Jim captured some really cool photographs.
As we reflect back on our trip to Hotel Breakers we realize some of you may wonder if it is the best place stay when planning a Cedar Point adventure.
Our answer is yes. Convenience is the biggest factor; trust us on this one – you will not be disappointed!
Special thanks to Cedar Point and Hotel Breakers for the complimentary one night stay and tickets to the park for our family.
