Earlier this week we went to Rite-Aid and happily snapped up 2 bottles of the Gillette Body Wash that was on a great sale. I knew I had a BOGO free coupon, so this was going to be a nice score!
At check out, I proudly handed over my coupon to the cashier and she looked at them and handed them back. It seems the coupon said “Buy A Body Wash, Get a Deodorant Free”. Well, I did not want that deal-I wanted 2 body washes. Hm, confused I took back the coupon and asked her to remove the body wash from the order. I could not figure it out, I was sure I had the required coupon because it was in the newspaper coupon insert from a few weeks back. We buy 6 papers each Sunday, so if it was out–I had it.
We trudged on with the rest of the day’s errands and when I returned home I set the coupons aside & did not give it much thought. But the lingering feeling that I messed up haunted me for a couple days.
Yesterday we had to run out for some things so I grabbed my coupon box (it goes everywhere!). I decided to look again for that dang Gilette body wash BOGO coupon. Wa-la! It was there, and I was geeked as I was going to get that body wash while out and about.
Fast forward to being inside Rite Aid…..and the body wash area….NONE left! Gone. Zip. Nadda. Dang!
What would you do? Pout and think about the great deal you missed and leave? NO! You can get a Rain Check for the item. A Rain Check is a voucher for that item, to buy it at the current sale price once it is back in stock. Rite Aid (and other stores) will give these out if you ask. I was able to get a Rain Check for 2 bottles (there is a limit of 2 bottles per customer) and Jim was able to get a Rain Check for 2 bottles. The Rite-Aid Rain Checks are good for 30 days, so I know they will be back in stock by then.
Also, there was a nice deal on BIC razors this week using the sale price and the manufacturer’s coupon. Guess what! They were totally sold out of those too. However, we now have Rain Checks for them and will snap them up when they are back in stock.
Always get a Rain Check if you can, for items out of stock!
