Now, I must confess a funny little story about Publisher’s Clearing House. Years ago when we lived in our other home, which was in the city, I had taken our doggie out for a walk after work. As I turned the corner to come home I saw a van parked in my driveway and 4 well dressed people getting out. They were carrying something, but I could not see what. Honestly, for about 30 seconds, my thoughts went to the commercials for Publishers Clearing House where you see them pulling up to a home to award a large prize to the winner.
I thought, could it be me? Did we win? I was curious to get home to find out what these people wanted so the doggie and I picked up the pace to reach the driveway. Alas, it was not Publishers Clearing House! The really odd twist to the story is that it was the family of a woman who used to live in the home many years ago. She was an avid gardener (which was how the lovely gardens at the home that I was now tending must have been started) and she had asked in her will that her ashes be spread on the property. The family members asked if I would mind if they would spread their Mom’s ashes amongst the gardens and I happily told them that was fine.
I took the dog in the house and peeked from the window as they held hands and I imagine said a little farewell to their Mom as they scattered the ashes.
Did we win the big bucks? No. Did something special happen that day? You bet.
