We are big fans of using a clothesline to dry our laundry, and you can often find me at one of our 2 clotheslines in the early morning hanging up a load of clothes. It not only makes them smell so good with the natural air, but it saves money too.
We live in a rural area and we do not have natural gas, so we have an electric dryer. We try very hard to conserve energy where we can, and drying less is part of that effort.
For years we have hung nearly everything out to dry except for towels. We were never big fans of how stiff and hard towels dry on the line, so we always plopped them in the dryer. While chatting with my wonderful Mother In Law about this one day she told me her secret. She said she dries her towels on the line, and then pops them in the dryer for 5 minutes to soften them up before she folds them. Wow, I thought that was pretty clever.
I tried it today and the results of The Towel Experiment…………..
It worked! While not as cuddly soft as if they were dried 100% in the dryer, I felt better about drying them outside. I saved us some money (every little bit helps) and I helped reduce our carbon footprint. Thanks Mom!
