We are in the midst of heavy snowfall right now and we know that this means that tomorrow is going to be a snow day!  The kids are so excited, they love snow days! (We did too as a kid!  Remember listening so carefully to the radio and hoping they would say your school’s name?)  Now a days word travels much faster but it is still exciting!

Since the kids will be looking for something to do, here are some ideas:

  • Write a letter.  Drag out some blank note cards or card stock, stickers, crayons, markers, stamps or whatever you have around the house.  Give them their own work area and let them have at it.  After they are done address the envelope and place a stamp on it.  The kids will get a kick out of “snail mail” and whomever the lucky recipient is will also!
  • Have a PJ day – stay in your jammies all day!
  • Make your own play-dough.  Here is an easy recipe.
  • Paint with marbles.  This is an easy craft that can really produce some fun art!  See the directions here.
  • Have a board game tournament & decide on a special prize for the winner.  It may be that they get to pick the movie on your next movie night, or they get to skip out of a chore for the week.  Use your imagination.
  • Go on a scavenger hunt inside the house.  Take a little bit of time to make a list of items that they need to locate.  If your kids are old enough let them use their phone and make them take a photo of the item as they find them.  Some suggestions:  a right sock, a sticker, a red shoe, a bible, a book with an animal in it, a toothbrush, a plastic dish, etc….use your imagination!
  • Freeze dance!  Play music and let the kids dance around (getting out all their energy).  When the music stops they have to “freeze”.
  • Have a pretend fashion show/photo shoot.

No matter what you decide to do, the important thing is that you’ll be sharing time together and having fun.  Your kids will enjoy this and you will as well.  Stay warm!
