10 Alternative Uses For Toothpaste

Note:  These tips are for the non-gel type of toothpaste only!

  • Clean your jewelry.  Dab a little bit of toothpaste on your rings and use an old toothbrush to give it a gentle scrub.  It will make your stones glisten.  (Be sure to rinse it well).  Do not use on pearls!
  • Remove crayon from walls.  Using a little bit of toothpaste and a damp rag, gently rub the area and the crayon will come off.

  • Clean the rubber of your athletic shoes.  Toothpaste and a scrub brush team up on the white rubber of athletic tennis shoes to make the white brighter.
  • Remove odor from your hands.  Scrub your hands with toothpaste to remove stubborn odors like onion.
  • Clean the bottom of the iron.  On a cold clothes iron scrub some toothpaste with a damp rag to remove water calcium build up.  Be sure to rinse it really well so as not to leave stains when you go to  iron your clothing.
  • Stop bathroom mirrors from fogging up.  Next time you clean the bathroom run a cloth with some toothpaste over the entire mirror and rinse.  This will prevent steam build up/fogging on the mirror when you shower.
  • Soothe a bee sting.  Remove the stinger and place a dab of toothpaste on the area to relive the pain.
  • Calm a cold sore.  Before bed dab a little bit of toothpaste on the cold sore to alleviate the sore.  You can do this during the day too – but it may look a little goofy!
  • Deodorize baby bottles.  That sour milk smell is yucky but if you add a little toothpaste to your bottle brush and give them a good scrubbing you will remove the odor.  Make sure to rinse the bottles well when you are finished.

  • Clean ceramic stove tops.  If you have a solid surface cook top you know keeping it clean is tricky and there are expensive cleaners that work well on the stains.  Toothpaste does too – and it so much more economical.  A sponge or dish cloth with toothpaste and some elbow grease is all you need to make the cook top glisten like new again.
