Here is a question for all of you The Clever Couple readers – do you ever drive by someone’s junk and think to yourself that you could use that item they have on the curb? If you are like us, from time to time we do that and then we usually circle the block and pull off to the side of the road to put the item in the vehicle. This works best with 2 people, so you can do a quick “stop and load”.
Just last week after my Radiation appointment we stopped at Goodwill to browse around. They did not have much, but they did have a shower rack that was new in the box and looked like it had come from Target. I am not sure if this is nationwide or not, but our Goodwill stores seem to be clearing houses for Target’s clearance items that do not sell. This rack was in a beat up box and was priced at $18.99.
Frankly, we did not think it was worth $18.99 so even though we needed one (we’ve been keeping our shampoo and soap dish on the floor of our new master bath shower for about a year now!). We finished up browsing and then hopped in the car for the 45 minute ride home.
You won’t believe it, but minutes after starting off we rode by a nice home that happened to have a shower rack out at the curb! We did the above mentioned circle, stop and load and were so happy! 100% free – and this rack was in great condition!
Jim brought it home and power washed it – all the parts were there and it is really sturdy! Check out the finished product:
We just love a score like this, it’s like a little victory for the budget and it makes us feel good that we saved something from going to a landfill.
What have you reclaimed from someone else’s trash?
