Yes, we love to sell on eBay and are always looking for interesting things to sell. This one is a doozy! We flipped a Kohler sink on eBay.
Look at this beauty we found at a local Habitat for Humanity store:
I happened to be shopping in the neighboring town and since the Habitat store is right across from Goodwill I thought it was worth popping in. I had not been to that particular Habitat store and was delighted to see it well organized and clean. We have been in other stores where it seemed messy and haphazard which didn’t give me the good feels. This store was different and enjoyable. When I headed to the back room I spotted this fun bathroom sink. Upon looking it over I saw that it was marked Kohler Artist Edisiton.
Should I buy it?
I was intrigued by the uniqueness of the sink but I knew it wasn’t right for our new house. That being said, I also realized this was probably a very expensive sink so I grabbed my phone and looked it up on eBay. I often do this when I want to check if an item is worth buying to sell on eBay. Be sure to check sold listings (by filtering the search results to “sold”) to see if an item is selling well. Just because an item is listed on eBay doesn’t mean it is selling on eBay.
Research was the key
There were no completed or sold listings for this exact sink but I quickly realized that people are buying Kohler Artist Edition sinks for big money. See examples below of searches for Kohler sink on eBay.
Knowing this would probably sell on eBay I then wondered how much it was because there wasn’t a tag on the sink. I looked around the other sinks and was delighted to see a sign “all sinks $5”.
Just $5? Bonus – sold. Normally I wouldn’t have thought about looking at a sink to flip on eBay, but the purchase price and potential selling price had such a huge gap that I decided it would be worth the trouble of boxing and shipping the sink. Shipping is something that often scares people away from eBay but it really isn’t that difficult and you shouldn’t let that deter you from selling on eBay.
Listing the sink
Once the sink was home we gave it a good cleaning and it sparkled just like new. Jim took detailed photographs of all side of the sink, the inside and the outside as well. We wrote up a thorough description and listed the item on auction. There were many people that viewed our auction but after 7 days it ended without a bid. We were not discouraged and we relisted the item in our eBay store VintageCollectibleMemorabilia, raising the price but adding the Best Offer feature.
About one month later, a buyer offered us $300 and we accepted the offer. The buyer paid for the shipping and we sent this via the United States Postal Service.
After all fees, we profited roughly $250! Below is a screen shot of the completed listing; the line through the price is an indication that we accepted a Best Offer from a buyer. This is true anytime you see a line through a price in eBay sold listing results.
We wanted to share this story of how we flipped a Kohler sink on eBay so you realize that selling big items can be profitable on eBay. You never know where you will find the next item to sell!
