It’s been a while since we have posted about a recent eBay sale, but this one is just too good not to share. It’s the next installment in our You Sold That For How Much series (read other eBay flip stories here).
Part of our eBay/online business involves selling items for other people. Many times when we are asked to sell something for someone it is coming from an estate of a relative that has passed away. We’ve been involved in one such estate liquidation for some time and the family members are a treat to work with. The house itself is like a time capsule featuring many retro and Mid-Century Modern items of decor.
Vintage sells – our eBay sale story
One of the recent items we brought home to sell was this pair of lamps.
The pair of lamps were unmarked so we didn’t know who made them. They were in very nice condition and the shades were a super cool shape. We did some research online to find out more about them and frankly we were stumped. We couldn’t find any lamps that were shaped like this … so we knew we had something special.
We decided to take a bunch of great photos and detail the lamps and see what happened.
What happened was astonishing. We began to get email questions on the lamps within a day of listing them for sale on eBay.
Then the bidding started; we opened bids at $499 for the pair plus shipping. (Shipping would be another story. We figured that each base and each shade should be shipped in their own box to prevent any type of damage while in transit). Then the fun started as the price kept creeping up and up. And up.
This pair of lamps ended up selling for $1136.11 + shipping. They are going to avid Mid-Century Modern collectors and we are so excited. We purchased 4 brand new heavy duty boxes, a big roll of bubble wrap and they are leaving our house today via FedEx. They will soon be in their new home.
You can take a look at this auction for the lamps on eBay.
Why share this eBay sale?
We are sharing this story with you for a few reasons, mainly because we encourage you to try selling on eBay as a way to make extra money. That is how we started, selling items around the house and items that we found at garage sales and thrift stores (read about the $950 sale we had on the $3 thrift store picture). Selling on eBay is pretty simple and it is a great way to supplement your income; a nice “side hustle” as Dave Ramsey would call it.
If you would have walked up to a garage sale and seen these lamps for sale, would you have bought them? If you were in a thrift shop and saw these two gems would you have even thought about selling them on eBay? Admittedly the lamp area is an area we don’t event venture into at the thrift store; that will change!
