Thanks for following along with us on our journey through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, FPU as it is commonly called.
After 9 weeks of class, we have finished the program. What a life changing experience it has been for both of us as you can probably tell from our other FPU weekly posts.
Week 9 was called The Great Misunderstanding and it was all about giving. You can basically do 3 things with money: spend it, invest it and give it away. Dave recommends giving all the time, even when you are just starting out on the road to financial peace but in baby step 7 giving increases dramatically because at this point you are 100% debt free, are fully funding your investment retirement account and you are living in a paid for house. You have extra money and you can be generous. (Can you imagine how amazing that point in life will be?).
In comparison to the other weeks, this class was more faith based. Dave is an Evangelical Christian and during the class he does speak at times of his beliefs which did not bother us at all. In fact many of his ideas about God and money fit perfectly with our beliefs. Week 9 was no different in that aspect, we did agree with everything he was teaching and we are beyond excited to be able to give generously. Giving is so much fun, and even though we don’t do it on a large scale just yet it still brings joy to our hearts.
During the entire course we were taught the importance of budgeting. Budgeting, budgeting, budgeting. Tell your money what to do! You can access the free Every Dollar budgeting tool here. We prefer to use the written budget (it just works better for us). Writing down every expense on paper and determining where every dollar will go has helped us tremendously. We have worked our way through 2 months and will be completing April’s budget sometime this coming week. We are actually excited to do the budget and to see our financial progress.
We would highly recommend Financial Peace University to every single person we know. It is life changing and you can do it – you can gain control of your finances and create a better future; it is never too late! Never.

Our instructors were a wonderful couple; along with our certificate shown above we were treated to yummy cupcakes during the last class and they made us each this fun candy card:
This Sunday is our first week without having to attend class. It’s a sense of accomplishment and excitement as we look to the future. A future filled with hope, dreams and living like no one else!
Take the class. You will not regret it.
