If you are ever confused about printable coupons, you are not alone. One of the questions or comments we hear often about coupons is if a particular coupon can be used at any store or not. We wanted to try and help with that!
How to tell the difference between a store coupon & a manufacturer’s coupon on Coupons.com
Since coupon sites like Coupons.com have started allowing retail stores like Walmart, Family Dollar, Publix and more to advertise on their site, it has become even more confusing for coupon users. You may have seen a printable coupon online that looks like this:
Upon first glance you may think that this coupon could only be used at Walmart – but that would be wrong. When you click to print the coupon it actually prints without the Walmart logo:
Because this is a manufacturer’s coupon (as noted on the top of the coupon), it can be used at any store that accepts coupons.
Or it may print without the store logo but with a suggestive statement saying “redeem at Walmart” as shown below. It is only a suggestion, (because it does not say “redeem only at Walmart”) this can be used at any store that accepts coupons.
But what about a coupon that has the store logo and specific wording like this one:
Because if the specific wording on the coupon, even though it is a manufacturer’s coupon, it can only be redeemed at Walmart.
There is a third type of coupon that seems to create the most confusion for people, including store cashiers. Sometimes a manufacturer’s coupon will print with a store logo but without any specific store wording, like this coupon below. Notice the Family Dollar logo and also notice the coupon does not state you have to use this at Family Dollar. This is a manufacturer’s coupon (as stated at the top of the coupon) so it can be used at any store. Sometimes you will encounter a cashier that will tell you they do not accept coupons from ______ (fill in the name of the store). This is not true, and they are simply confused about the coupon; if you are kind and explain to them that this is manufacturer coupon for use at any store, 9 times out of 10 they will then understand. If you continue to have a problem and want to speak with a store manager, we encourage you to do that. Worst case scenario, remember the cashier and avoid him/her next time you check out at that store.
We really hope that this helps to explain the different types of printable coupons you will see, but even more so we hope this helps you understand where you can use the coupons to save money.
