Does it seem like forever ago we broke the big news (to us anyway) that we are moving? It feels that way to us sometime too. Are we moving or not?
Once we told you the news so many of you reached out with kind comments and words of encouragement that touched our hearts. Thanks for being so supportive! Because of that we figured we would give you a little update on where we are in the process.
Yes, we are still moving to the new house we told you about.
Yes, we still are living in the “old house”. In fact we have not even put the “old house” up for sale … yet. Why? Well, life kind of just happened to get in the way of our road map so we had to reconnoiter the plan.
Why the delay?
See, Mr TCC had a small job/project in our neighborhood that ballooned into a full blown HUGE work project. The 4 week job is now a multi month long job. Because the current gig is right in our town it would be absurd to move right now. If we did he would have a 2 hour commute to and from work to finish the job. It would just be silly.
So, that being said, our timeline for moving was delayed. Add in the workload and set up time for our massive garage sale (which was last weekend and was unbelievably fantastic) which took a couple of weeks – and we are now eyeing a move for July or August. We’ve abandoned the idea that the new house will have the fresh coat of paint, new flooring and small renovation complete before we move. That was our initial plan but at this point we are ready to move into the new house “as is” and make it a work in progress as we live there. We love an adventure!
At this point, I am focused on continuing to pack everything I can. We are making one to two trips a week to the new house to drop off boxes and items into the huge storage garage. We sold SO MUCH stuff at the garage sale that our huge building and garage will be 95% empty as soon as the liquidator comes to clean out all the leftovers.
Our approach
Last night we made a “war board” with several poster boards detailing our to-do hit list. This includes tasks we want to do to the current house before we put it on the market. We are both visual people so having this checklist in front of our face will help us feel accomplished. Some of the jobs are small, like replacing a vent cover. Some are larger like repainting the kitchen. They will all get done, either before we move or the week after we move out. Some of the tasks will be easier to complete once we are out of the house, like putting up some long ignored baseboards in one bedroom. It was an odd feeling to walk through the house and pick out all the things we see we can improve on before we sell.
We are thrilled with the response we heard from the shoppers at our garage sale when we said the house would soon be for sale. There was a lot of general interest and at least four serious conversations we had about the property. You can tell the difference when chatting to people, and that made us excited! We do have our realtor, who is a long time friend that we have worked with for all our real estate needs (we used to own rental units) for the past 20+ years.
I realize this is a long post, but you guys know I like to talk (and write apparently). In a nutshell, that is the summary of where we are right now…..stay tuned for more updates on the journey.
