We are getting so VERY excited! In just about a week we leave for vacation; we have not said that in quite a long time (years in fact). Originally we were going to do a road trip along the eastern states but because we decided to buy a new (to us) vehicle this year we postponed that trip and decided instead to explore our great state of Michigan. We are headed to the Upper Peninsula, commonly called the “UP”. We are going to be traveling all over the UP, and sharing many of our adventures with you along the way. Since many of you are from Michigan we hope it will be helpful for you to read about the places we stay, the things we do, how we save money, etc – in case you plan your own trip to the UP.
We have some set plans but also left quite a few days unplanned so that we can be spontaneous and go where the wind takes us. (Hopefully that doesn’t mean we’ll end up sleeping in the Captiva!). We do have some reservations at hotels/resorts; some of the places we are going to be staying include:
Bay Mills Resort & Casino in Brimley, MI
America’s Best Value Inn in St. Ignace, MI
The Buck Horn Resort in Munising, MI
Zellar’s Village Inn in Newberry, MI
Comfort Suites in Marquette, MI
We plan to visit Mackinac Island one day, taking the Arnold Ferry across from Mackinac City. It’s been years and years since we have been to the Island so we are looking forward to that.
The next few days will be spent lining up our house sitter, packing, laundry and tying up loose ends. We are getting really excited – in case I wasn’t clear about that. VERY excited!
Do you have any tips for travel in the UP?
