Meijer Shopping Trip – How I Screwed Up

Have you ever had one of those shopping trips that do not go quite as planned? I am talking about the trip you’ve planned in your head, organized your coupons for, drove to the store, loaded up your cart and then got home to realize “wait a minute, that isn’t right….”.

I am 99% sure we have all experienced that feeling of frustration and disappointment. It doesn’t matter if you are novice coupon user or an experienced coupon pro, it happens to us all at one point or another.

If you happened to run into me at Meijer yesterday you would have had a front row seat to my little oopsie trip. It wasn’t super major, but I did screw up while shopping their 10 for $10 sale + 11th item free. See that “11th item free” part? I totally forgot about that 11th item so I loaded up my cart with 3 transactions worth of 10 for $10 products (the cheap Old El Paso salsa deal, the Chex Mix deal, spaghetti sauce, sour cream, croutons & more); 30 products total.

I should have had 33 participating products to get the most bang for my buck! Aaaaggghhh! I can’t believe I did that. Luckily Meijer deducts the 11th item as you ring through your order so I actually ended up with 2 sets of 11 items and a set of 8 items (which should have been another set of 3).

What I am grateful for is that at Meijer the participating items ring up $1 each, not full price. Due to this system I actually ended up paying just a little bit more than if I would have checked out with the right amount of items (33). Whew!

But still it drove me crazy that I had screwed this up! How could I forget about that 11th FREE item? Free, free I say – the word couponers love the most in the whole wide world …. and I forgot it?

Have you ever felt this way?
