We love selling on eBay and we also enjoy a good plunder around a garage sale! In fact, you may not know this but my full time job is running our online retail business which includes eBay, Amazon and more.
Last weekend I went out hunting at a huge community yard sale in a town about 40 minutes away. It is always nutty crazy busy at this sale and this year was no exception. I scored some really sweet things that I am keeping for our home but I also picked up a few things to resell on eBay.
I picked up this vintage Peanuts felt stocking kit that had never been opened. I knew it was old, and I was right!
I paid $3 for the kit and was so happy! Just so you know, always pick up sealed felt stocking kits at garage sales and thrift stores. They typically always sell, and usually for a lot of money. Don’t believe me? Check out these recent Christmas felt stocking kit sales on eBay. Crazy cool, right?
I came home with my Peanuts kit, took some photos and listed it on eBay. It was dated 1965, so it was 52 years old!
It was only listed for a short time at my price of $73.99. I turned on the “best offer” feature in my eBay listing so if someone was interested in the stocking kit but didn’t want to pay $73.99 they could send me via eBay messages their best offer. Yesterday someone offered $50; I counter offered $62 and the buyer accepted. $62! I paid $3 for it. Score!

There are some small fees associated with the sale that we have to deduct from the sales price to see the actual profit.
- eBay charges a fee for selling the item based on the final sales price. Our eBay fee is $5.58.
- When the buyer pays later today, Paypal will also charge a fee, around $2.50 for this item.
- We offered free shipping as an incentive to buyers; this will cost around $4 to ship.
After deducting our fees we will still end up with a profit of $46.92!
Selling items on eBay is a great way to earn extra money. We started our eBay selling while I was still working outside the home at a full time job. We began by selling unwanted items we had around the house and then it grew to the business we run today. Selling on eBay isn’t rocket science, but it does take discipline and effort. Plus it is so much fun!
