Most of you probably know that Walmart will price match ads from competitors. Their policy is really quite liberal, allowing most kinds of sale matching and you don’t even have to bring in the ad. In our experience, you simply tell the cashier the sale price and that is the price they go by. It seems like unscrupulous people could really take advantage of this policy, but we know none of you guys would ever do that!
Anyway, back to the story of how Walmart came to play a part in our date night this week.
We had booked our free hotel room for the Soaring Eagle HERO program at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort for Tuesday night. Jim was on his way home to pick me up and he texted that he had a flat tire. He changed the tire on the expressway (which made me nervous) and came home with the spare tire on. We knew we couldn’t travel on the spare for long so we decided to drive to Sam’s Club to have the tire repaired. That is where we bought the tires from originally and they will fix a flat for free for members. Remember that we live in a really, really rural area and we have to drive to have things like this completed. Sam’s Club was the opposite direction of our hotel, but we figured since it was mid-afternoon we would have plenty of time left after the tire fix.
We arrived at Sam’s Club at 4:00pm only to find that the service center was really busy. They said it would be at least 2 hours until they were able to take a look at the car. Oh no – 2 hours! We decided to wait because we were uncertain if any other tire store could take us in quicker and by the time we drove all over checking we would probably waste as much time.
We browsed the store a bit, had a snack in their cafe (see our photo below) and sat. And sat. The time ticked away and I knew that we were going to arrive at the hotel considerably later than we thought we would. I knew that I also wanted to hit Kroger because the Mega Sale was ending that night and I had more coupons to use for the cheap Kraft dressing and JIF peanut butter.
Then, like a brick it hit me – there was a Walmart right next door and they price match! Jim stayed at Sam’s Club and I walked to Walmart with my coupons. Sure enough, there was plenty of stock in the Kraft dressing area as well as the JIF peanut butter. I picked up my items, along with some other goodies and headed to the cashier.
I simply told her the price that the items were at Kroger and she price matched – no questions asked.
I walked back to Sam’s Club with my bags of food and joined Jim as he waited for the vehicle. Luckily it was a puncture and it was able to be fixed at no charge; unluckily they were delayed a bit in servicing the tire and we did not leave the store until 7:00pm.
The Walmart Price Match policy really helped us because it eliminated another stop before we started our hotel stay!
Don’t forget about this gem of a policy – not only when you are in a situation like ours but in your weekly shopping trips. Walmart really makes it so easy to do!
