While traveling around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we wanted to use the town of Newberry as a stopping point for our day of exploration of Tahquamenon Falls. We had the pleasure of staying at Zellar’s Village Inn and really enjoyed our stay. There is a hotel and motel, as well as an on site restaurant and lounge. You can eat, drink and sleep in one place (which is perfect when you are a little travel weary as we were).
If you go, when you pull in you may not notice the large building in the back of the property behind the restaurant. This wood structure is the hotel.
We were greeted by very friendly staff upon arriving and were delighted to be booked in one of their themed suites. We opened the door to find a very large room decorated in Green Bay Packers theme. We’ve never had such a spacious hotel room! It featured a bar area complete with bar stools, fridge, wet bar sink, huge multiple person jacuzzi, king size bed, pull out couch, microwave, coffee pot and more. This suite easily sleeps up to 4 people.
The owners have really made a big effort to make you feel like you are on a getaway from the norm. In speaking to the staff we discovered they have not only this Green Bay Packers suite but also a Detroit Red Wings suite and a NASCAR suite as well. You can find out more about Zellar’s Village Inn Hotel rooms here.
The bathroom has a shower and ample room.
There is an indoor heated pool that is open until midnight, with adult only swim from 10:00 pm to midnight. When we stayed there several of the adult guests were enjoying the pool, as well as Jim. There is a hot tub too, but it was closed during our visit. The pool is available to the public for a small fee so if you are visiting family in Newberry they are welcome to join you for a swim.
There is also laundry facilities on site which was helpful for us.
The hotel was perfect for relaxing and catching some much needed sleep. In the morning there is complimentary coffee in the well decorated lobby as well as donuts. We used our microwave in the room to reheat some leftovers from dinner the night before. It was so convenient and was exactly what we were looking for as we were up early and on the road again. We did notice the on site restaurant was very busy with guests and non-guests grabbing a bite to eat. It is a full service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Z’s Lounge is open until 2am, so if you are looking for a spot to unwind this full service bar is just the ticket. From 4pm to 10pm you can order off the restaurant menu and dine in the bar. We noticed residents and travelers gathered in the lounge for a bit of relaxation.
If you are on a road trip and are looking for a central spot to stay, check out Zellar’s Village Inn Hotel. Newberry is a central location to stay and within an easy drive to the glorious Tahquamenon Falls (do not miss this wonderful place), Whitefish Point and the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, Oswald’s Bear Ranch, Seney Wildlife Refuge and many other attractions. It is open year round and is a popular spot for snowmobilers, hunters and outdoors explorers.
The Clever Couple was given one night’s complimentary lodging in exchange for this honest review of the property.
