On our travels around the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we wanted to be sure to visit the lovely town of St. Ignace. It’s the first city you arrive at once you cross the Mackinac Bridge, on the southernmost tip of the Upper Peninsula. Many people stay at Mackinac City (the town at the other end of the bridge, on the lower portion of the state). In our opinion, Mackinac City is much more touristy and busy; St. Ignace is more of a laid back town.
There are an abundance of places to stay in St. Ignace but we were thrilled with our stay at Americas Best Value Inn!
Right on the main drag that runs through town, Americas Best Value Inn St Ignace features 75 rooms that are immaculately clean and have nice bedding. We were pleasantly surprised upon checking in to find our room features free wi-fi, a mini fridge, coffee maker and more. There is also an indoor pool and whirlpool – perfect for those times when it is rainy or chilly outside. We enjoyed some time in the pool/whirlpool during one of the afternoons when it rained.
Outside of the pool area is a patio where you can sit and relax and watch the world go by. And if you need to launder any clothing, there is a laundry facility too.
The Americas Best Value Inn features a free breakfast, which is not only convenient but a nice money saver as well. The breakfast is served in a separate room that is very spacious and features many tables for sitting and dining.
Or if the weather is nice you can take your breakfast outside and dine on one of several tables outdoors. The choices on the breakfast buffet were ample, including pastries, cereal, sausage, biscuits & gravy, yogurt, boiled eggs, toast and fresh fruit. It was easy to fill up and be ready to start the day with full bellies! We love the convenience of having a free breakfast.
The hotel is on the north side of the street, across from Lake Huron . However the owners of this hotel also own the hotel across the street and thus the guests of Americas Best Value Inn have access to over 700 feet of Lake Huron frontage. A quick walk across the street and you can access the lakeshore property of the partner hotel. The grounds are well manicured and feature wooden swings, seating, a bon fire pit and more.
It is the perfect spot to relax and take in the beauty of the area. I spent over an hour there this morning; unbelievably I was the ONLY one out there, the entire time. I think most travelers were out and about, not hanging around the hotel. Our hotel’s parking lot was nearly deserted during the day even though they were filled to capacity. Just look how beautiful it is there!
Since the hotel is centrally located, many places are within walking distance including places to eat and shop. Or, hop in your car for a quick drive and you can access everything in town within a mile or two. The person working at the counter when we checked out recommended a few local restaurants and the lobby also featured several menus to local spots. We followed her recommendation and had a delicious dinner! In fact the portions were large and we ended up with take-out boxes!
The take-outs from last night became lunch today, since we had the convenient in room mini fridge to store them in. We supplemented the left overs with some fresh tomatoes picked up from a local shop. It was a perfect lunch, and very economical.
Be sure to stroll over to the lakeside in the evening for some amazing photo opportunities! We’d recommend this hotel in a heartbeat for anyone venturing to the area.
