Man, it is h-o-t! Yes, like many of you we are “enjoying” record breaking heat. Are you struggling to beat the heat? Sure, you can stay indoors and enjoy your air conditioning if you have it – but we thought we’d share some other fun ideas for you and the kiddos!
Fun & Free Ideas to Beat The Heat
- Have a water balloon fight! When is the last time you did this? Remember how much fun it is, and how you can’t help but giggle…..you can buy a bag of water balloons for $1 so the investment is minimal. No whipping them either – play nice!
- Do the laundry! Give your child a small plastic tub, some dish soap or laundry soap, the hose, clothespins and their doll clothes and let them get to work. I have fond memories of my Grandma letting me do this at her house and hanging my own clothes line – it was a lot of fun.
- Freeze ice cubes dyed with liquid watercolor and let the kids “paint” outside on scrap fabric. We saw this idea on Share and Remember and thought it was fun. We’d recommend letting the kids wear a cruddy outfit or bathing suit, in case the colors stain.
- Go to the beach! Just grab a blanket, your beach towels, flip flops, sunscreen and go!!
- Check out the Spray Park or your community pool – many towns are building fabulous spots for kids to cool off at, and Spray Parks are usually free to the community. Investigate what your town or the neighboring town has to offer.
- Use the extra sponges in your stockpile to create the fun Water Bombs shown above. Go to Positively Splendid for the directions (they are super easy)
- Run through the sprinkler – no matter how old you are!
