We went to Meijer last night to buy water softener salt (we used our $1/2 coupon from the inserts, of course!) and checked out their turkey deals. Normally we buy our holiday turkey from Meijer in years past, but now that we are so heavily into using coupons and tend to shop at Kroger more we kind of figured they would have the best deal.
Wrong!
Kroger has turkey at $0.59 a pound this week.
Meijer has an even better deal!
When you spend $20 you can buy 1 turkey and save $16 off! The turkey must be 16 pounds or more. (If you want a smaller turkey you can save $9 off a 10 to 15 pound turkey). We host dinner for our combined families and we cook 2 turkeys, usually about 13 pounds each. With this sale the smallest turkeys they had out were 17 pounds each – so we will have a little more leftovers this year.
Jim checked out and I checked out (there is a limit of 1 turkey per person on this deal). We were buying enough other stuff to hit the $20 threshold each.
For a 17 pound turkey, originally $1.29 a pound we paid just $5.93!! That is only $0.35 a pound!
If you have a Meijer store- check out this amazing deal. (As a side note, we’ve cooked Meijer brand turkeys for the past 6 years and it is delicious. We use the Reynolds cooking bags and they turn out moist and flavorful. Don’t be leery of the store brand!).
I was wondering.. with the Kroger turkey deal you have to have a $10 min purchase is that $10 before coupons because if it is.. you could potentially make your $10 min purchase free after coupons and then get the turkey for 59c. But most people have other stuff to buy at Meijer so..
Good question Shannon. I am thinking it is before because when you scan the turkey it will ring up the $0.59 price. You’d scan it after your other items but before the cashier takes off the coupons. You may want to double check at customer service first. Thanks for bringing that option to the table.
