Our Garage Sale Score of the Day – And What Not To Say!

Today we had a few hours before Kelli’s radiation appointment so we decided to hit some garage sales.  You know how it is, sometimes you shop sales and you find a lot of nice stuff and other days you don’t really end up with much.

Well today was a good day – but it was SO hot!  90 degrees plus!

Anyway…..some of our nice buys include:

  • 4 pairs of Hollister shorts, $2 each
  • 2 skirts, shorts, 3 t-shirts and a dress (all from the store Justice) for $9 – my niece loves that brand
  • Birdfeeder for $1.50
  • Pyrex casserole dish with the lid $0.25 (yep, a quarter!)
  • Dooney & Bourke gently used handbag (a real one, not the yucky knock offs) for $8 – she had it marked at $10 but we offered $8 because we were buying a bunch of other stuff and she was happy to accept

And the deal of the day…………..

Just $5!  We had our eye on one of these when we remodeled our bathroom, but did not want to invest $25+ on one.  Hooray!  (This is for the same bathroom that has the trash-salvaged shelf unit we told you about here!).

Oh – and we were cracking up at a conversation we overheard at one sale!  A woman was looking at a Bissell carpet scrubber and it was far from new, but looked in OK shape.  The man running the sale was really trying to sweet talk her into buying it, and as she thought about it she asked if that was the best he could do on the price.  His response?  “Yes, if I can not get that price I will just donate it.”.  Um…..that sounded really silly to both of us since the object of a sale is to get rid of stuff and make money.  The lady was taken aback too and walked away.  Now the silly guy is going to have to load that up, drive it to the donation center and haul it inside.  She would have taken it off his hands for just a small discount.  Crazy!

Did you go to any garage sales today?  What did you find?

Ha ha, people are really silly sometimes! She probably would have taken it for $1 less!! His loss! I went to several yesterday and today. I found next to nothing. A bunch of overpriced junk really. But I did get the baby
a fisher price baby basketball hoop, little einsteins laptop, a pair of shorts and 2 shirts for $3
My bigger boy a timberland tee for $1
2 big new rolls of no slip shelf paper for $1 each
Mom’s foster baby a pair of new sneakers for $1
and a new bathroom basketball hoop for $1

    • You did pretty well Heather, from the sound of it. And we agree, if the man would have budged just a dollar or two I am 99% sure the lady would have bought it.

I know when we run our sale we are super bargain friendly – I’d rather sell it then pack it away when it is over!

  2. I agree with the guy! Yes, discounts are nice and I LOVE a great deal…especially when I am the one getting it. I have also been on the other end of things as the seller. I HATE haggling. When I shop at garage sales, I know I am already getting something at a steep discount and I want the other person to make some money. Win-win for us both. At my garage sale, I priced things to sell so when someone is penny-pinching and haggling over .25 a HUGE part of me would rather just donate it, take the tax write-off and know that it went to a great cause instead of a stingy cheapskate.
